Funny, because I'm not even a Notre Dame football fan. Truth is, I have rooted against them for most of my years. There was a period of time when I did like them, out of respect for my son. When he was about ten, he became a fan of the Fightin' Irish. We were fortunate enough to get tickets to a handful of games up in South Bend during the next few years.

Whether you like Notre Dame football or not, going to a game there in mid October is something else. Beautiful campus, great atmosphere...what college football is all about.
So I watched the movie, reflected upon my last football practice in high school, ...

Gary Brackett...Heart and Soul

Before Gary Brackett ever set foot on the practice field as a Colt, we had him in studio on our Sunday evening show. After speaking with Gary for an hour, it was evident that this guy was all heart. It was clear that he was a quality person, just looking for an opportunity. It was obvious that he would take advantage of that opportunity and run with it...

Who knew that he would become the defensive captain of the Super Bowl Indianapolis Colts a few years later...that he would be the heart and soul of that defense? Who knew just how much of a difference he would make off the field with his Impact Foundation?

I don't know many players on the team...actually Gary is probably the only one that I do know to any extent. We always get a laugh about how I gave him his big "break" that Sunday ...

I Wont be Mad...

I was really just hoping to see one...just one championship season. It had been such a long time since this team had won one...and that is if you consider yourself a Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts fan. Yes, some of us do exist. Nothing against Baltimore...nothing against Indianapolis...some of us just support this team, no matter where they play. If you are just an Indianapolis fan, you've never seen it.

And so it happened...the Colts, coming off an up and down regular season, do the unlikely...they go and win a Super Bowl three years ago. The playoff run was something else...the AFC Championship win against the Patriots can never be topped, in my humble opinion...it made the win over the Bears somewhat anti climatic. But it was a championship...I got what I asked for, the one thing that I wanted from this ballclub that I had invested in emotionally, financially, for so long....

The Moment

I don't believe that this is the best, most talented Colts team of the last decade. They are certainly good, but they have had a handful of years where the talent was better. And while maybe not as talented, or as good, they have something else going for them right now that separates them from those teams...

A sense of purpose...a calm, businesslike, yet emotional mission that they seem to be on. You see it in the quarterback. Have you ever seen him more focused, more driven, more relentless in his pursuit of a championship? Nothing phases him...he doesn't get rattled, thrown off his game...just reads and makes adjustments, figures it out, keeps forging ahead, taking his ballclub with him every step of the way.

There is a true sense of maturity, a sense that this team needs to seize the moment...a sense that this team needs to take advantage ...

Just Enjoy It...

If you have any sort of emotional, financial investment in the Colts, whether it's for one year or for thirty, enjoy this week. Your team is hosting the AFC Championship Game for the second time in four years.
Just take it all in. The hype, the rallies... the atmosphere that will permeate our fair city.

Your team doesn't get here very often...make the most of it. Take your family to the pep rally at Lucas Oil Stadium Thursday evening and have some fun. Make this week really count. Get into it...why not?

Don't let any of the naysayers bring you down. This team is good, and if they play their game...if they can play sixty minutes of good football...they are off to Miami, with the opportunity to win another championship.

Great story lines leading up to this game. The Jets have some similarities to that '95 Colts team that surprised the ...

TD's...Not Apologies...

Guess that I'm not that needy. Didn't expect, want, or need an apology from the pro football team that plays in our fair city. They didn't ruin my day...or my season. Certainly, I was dissapointed that they didn't pursue a victory over the Jets...but knowing that the next week they played in Buffalo, I didn't think that 16-0 was going to happen anyway.

It's laughable that some of you are still pushing the issue, can't let it go. I am glad that the quarterback of a 14-2 team asking you for forgiveness has made you feel better. Peyton Manning, asking fans to forgive and forget. Bill Polian telling you how much you are needed if this team is going to make a playoff run.

The real story is that there may not be a lot of patience from the Colt's "faithful" on the 16th at Lucas Oil. If this team ...

I'm the Guy in the Window Wearing the Unitas Jersey...

The radiothon is going on. WIBC holds it every year in December to benefit the Salvation Army. It's not tricky. We raise money to help out a great organization.
I do the overnights. I'll be on from midnight until 6am Saturday morning, 10pm until 5am Sunday morning....I have fun and try and raise some money.

Anyone can raise money at 2 in the afternoon. I like the challenge of raising money at 2am. I like the opportunity that this presents. Most of us want to do something to help someone. I feel safe in saying that. I am fortunate in being able to do this...it's fun, I get to work with some passionate folks...I get to meet some really good people who want to do their part...you would be surprised at how many people are out and about overnight. Quite a few generous folks who want to help.

So if ...

What Will it Take?

If you keep predicting rain, sooner or later you are going to get it right. So it is with many of those jokers in the national sports media. Sooner or later, the Colts will stumble, just as they have been predicting for the last four or five weeks. The only thing predictable to me is just how predictably stupid some of them are.

Two years ago, right around this point in the season, ESPN continously reminded us 24/7 that the Patriots were in "Pursuit of Perfection". I guess that us fans of the Saints and Colts don't warrant any such reminders.

20 wins in a row, 11-0 this season, an abundance of injuries...and there are those who don't appreciate just what this team accomplishes week in and week out. Why? Perhaps because it has become expected? Hmmm, I seem to recall a number of "experts" who thought that this team ...

Bellichick Blinks...Throws in the Towel...

When it came down to it, Bellichick flinched a couple of weeks ago, and just gave up last night. My blog, my thoughts...my words...make of it what you will.

On the way over analyzed 4th and 2 against the Colts, he screwed up. He jacked up that whole series. He blinked, gave the ball to Manning 29 yards from the winning score...pretty damned stupid, if you ask me...but what do I know?

Last evening was even better. He gave up. Down 21 points, 5 and change to go, he benches Brady, Moss, Welker... so much for playing a full 60, huh Bill?

It was okay to leave them in with 30 and 40 point leads...it was cool to go a full 60 with the starting offensive unit...it was nice to go 30 yards downfield to Moss with 30 seconds left and a big lead against the Jets a couple of ...

Colts-Patriots...One Simple, Final Question...

Don't over think it...try not to over analyze it...just want your honest, gut reaction.

Instead of going for it on fourth and two, let's say that the Patriots punt. Manning proceeds to drive the Colts seventy yards for the winning score... game over. Would your reaction have been that the Patriots should have gone for it on that fourth and two instead of punting?

I doubt that it would been a part of any post game conversation. That situation has occurred more times than any of us care to recall. I don't really remember anyone ever saying, "Damn, they should have went for it on fourth down." It just does not enter the conversation...not when the ball is on your twenty eight yard line.
I don't care if you are a sportswriter, a diehard fan, work the chains at your local high school on Friday evenings...host a sports talk show, coach ...
