Who the Hell is Kent Sterling?

It would be easy, real easy, after watching the display the Colts put on against the Bears last night to dismiss this team as very mediocre and predict eight wins this season, if they are lucky.
The Colts got beat. They didn't just lose. They got beat. Chicago dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The pass protection was pretty pretty good, but overall the Colts got out-physicaled and out-executed.
The Colts aren't supposed to get out-executed by anyone, but especially not by the goddamn Bears. They ran the ball when the Colts knew they would, and still gashed them.
A good fan would be furious and say this team is broken, and played like crap. "The season is lost when we can't beat the Bears in the home-opener," thousands of others who watched the debacle live screamed on their way home last night.

After nearly 9 months, the Indianapolis Colts return to real competition on Sunday night. With any new season, there are many questions. Sunday, we'll begin to get some answers.
Is Peyton Manning fully healthy? While he says he'll continue his rehab throughout the season, the general consensus is that his knee will not be a factor. But, we'll have a much better idea on Sunday. No one outside of the Colts organization has seen Manning take a snap recently.
Will the patched together offensive line hold up? Jeff Saturday, Ryan Lilja and rookie 2nd round pick Mike Pollack will also miss the opener and likely more time. Lilja is out at least 6 weeks. Tony Ugoh was banged up in practice on Wednesday, but Tony Dungy said on Friday that he was fine and he is not listed on the injury report.
Is Marvin Harrison back? We think so. He ...

It won't matter what I tell myself Saturday evening as I get to sleep. Won't matter if I go to bed at 9 PM or 1 AM. Wont make a difference. It will be the same as it always is. I'll be staring at the ceiling around 5 o'clock Sunday morning. Sure, I'll make a half hearted attempt or two trying to get back to sleep. It won't work. It never does.
I tell myself that it's just a game, that I've gained perspective on what it really means in the grand scheme of things. And to a certain extent, I have gained perspective. To a certain extent. Guess it is hard to just see it as a game, a diversion, even if it is. Win or lose, the sun comes up, the world keeps turning, good and bad stuff continues to happen...every day. It doesn't change anything.
But still, ...

We already had a decent amount to discuss this week (the championship, the blocking call on Helio, the impending offseason, potential minor driver moves, and more), but now we've got big things happening. We'll obviously detail Dario Franchiti moving into Dan Wheldon's seat and Wheldon then taking over for Vitor Meira and where Vitor might end up. We hope to talk with Dario, Dan and also Detroit winner Justin Wilson. Plus, your calls (317-239-1070) and emails (kevin@1070thefan.com).

The Blue And Gold Files

The first four games on the Indiana Pacers’ 2008-09 schedule looks like this:
- On the road at Detroit.
- At home versus the World Champion Boston Celtics.
- At home versus Steve Nash, Shaquille O’Neal and the Phoenix Suns.
- On the road to take on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Does anyone see a scenario where the Blue and Gold DON’T start the season 0-4? Perhaps the ultimate optimist may see a better outcome than I do…but if there is a bright spot it’s that there are still 78 more games after that brutal four-game start.
In fact, the schedule improves rather dramatically over the course of the next 12 games. Only five of the 12 are against teams that made the playoffs last season: Houston, Orlando (twice), Atlanta, and Dallas.
In December the difficulty-meter kicks up yet again with matchups against the Lakers, ...
