Let IPL Light Up your Fourth of July

If you're ever walking around Monument Circle at night you may notice a building lit up with colorful lights - and when you find out it's the IPL building, it makes a lot of sense.

IPL's window light display is meant to "promote meaningful events and organizations impacting lives in Central Indiana."

Here are a few displays you may have seen:

Star Wars Day

  • MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU

Indianapolis 500

  • WELCOME RACE FANS / CHECKERED FLAG

National Nurses Day

  • BLUE, GREEN & ORANGE

Memorial Day

  • AMERICAN FLAG

Colts

  • COLTS LOGO

Pacers

  • PACERS LOGO

Christmas

  • GREEN & RED / CHRISTMAS TREE

The colorful light display is maintained by a computer and features LED bulbs that produce more than 16 million hues - which is why they can light up their 10-story building for almost any event or organization. Not only do they light up their building and pretty much every other one in Indiana, they're also going to be lighting up the sky this July 4th for Downtown Freedom Fest!

Last year, IPL gave away light up bracelets to the 100 members of the VIP guests, and held a selfie and hashtag competition.

This year, the competition for VIP seats will take a little turn. There will still be a selfie contest, but it's with your feet. Yup, you heard that right - there will be "shoefie" stations all around the Indiana War Memorial where you can take a photo of your shoes (or barefeet) on colorful, patriotic signage.

PLUS, you can enjoy live entertainment from the Indianapolis Colts Stage, family fun in the Royal Pin Leisure Centers Kids Area and get a great view of the downtown fireworks display launched from Regions Tower!
