Grady and Big Joe

Kentucky will be cutting down the Nets

Posted By: MG michael@1070thefan.com · 3/29/2012 2:22:00 PM

We've heard the experts all season...."Kentucky's team is so strong, not even CALIPARI can mess it up this time."

While it may be taken as a jab at Calipari's coaching acumen...it also paints a clear picture as to the type of talent Calipari has compiled this season.  Anthony Davis will be the top overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, in five-short months Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has supplanted North Carolina's Harrison Barnes as the premier perimeter prospect, and Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, and Darius Miller will soon find NBA homes as well.  I haven't even mentioned local product Marquis Teague who has made huge strides as the season has progressed as well.

Louisville fans will believe that the rivalry and bad blood will elevate the play of the Cardinals but at the end of the day, talent will win out.  The Cardinals are a hell of a story and are led by a hell of a coach...but the Wildcats simply won't be denied.

The other national semi-final contest is a bit more intriguing.  Ohio State has been battling complacency throughout the season.  They have tons of talent, but have the tendency to go through periods where they don't play up to their full potential.  The Kansas Jayhawks have had similar instances where you've been left scratching your head by their performance.  What can't be questioned is the tremendous talent on both sides of the basketball.

Everyone is clamoring for the Thomas Robinson Jared Sullinger matchup, but I believe this game will be won in the backcourt.  William Buford and more importantly Aaron Craft will be the difference in this ballgame.  Both have a huge impact on games and we should see the same Saturday night.  Look for Craft being a nuisance defensively and coming up with huge plays and Buford finding his touch from the perimeter with backbreaker three's.

It will make for a terrific national championship game Monday night.  I'm locking in Kentucky vs. Ohio State...with Calipari (try to hold onto your lunch Indiana fans) and the Wildcats cutting down the nets in the Bayou.
