Super Bowl - Another classic!

NFL DOES IT BEST!
Good economy, bad economy. It just doesn’t matter when it comes to the NFL and its SUPER BOWL. Good times or bad times…they deliver!
What a show Sunday night in Tampa. Whether it was Bruce Springsteen and his halftime performance that may have been the league’s best since Michael Jackson in Pasadena many years ago or the GLORY ROAD that Ben Roethlisberger took the Steelers on to the franchise’s record sixth world championship. It’s an offense Ben was BORN TO RUN. Roethlisberger has more 4th quarter comebacks in the NFL over the last five years than anyone in the game! Anyone! And he now has as many Super Bowl rings as the Mannings COMBINED!
Just when we thought we saw one of the Super Bowl’s best ever endings last year in Phoenix with Eli Manning bringing the Giants back, here comes BIG PLAY BIG BEN and his gang. I believe Ben should have been MVP. Instead for the third time in five years a WIDE RECEIVER walks off with the MVP and the car. Ohio State’s Santonio Holmes had a terrific game and really stepped up late. His best catch may have been the one that didn’t count when he converted a first down with a brilliant reception only to lose it as holding was called in the end zone giving the Steelers a safety! He joins fellow Steeler Hines Ward and Seattle’s Deion Branch, a Carmel resident by the way, as the three wideouts with some extra Super Bowl hardware.
Unlike last year in Arizona, the best team won this Super Bowl for sure. If they play a best of seven series, the Steelers walk away with the title. But you gotta admire the grit and fight in the Cardinals. Kurt Warner gave his all but at the end of the day the lack of running game killed the Cards.
We had a great Super Bowl week with our special coverage from the Media Center in Tampa on Thursday and Friday. Tons of VIP guests came by including Archie Manning, Dick Stockton, Tim Brown, Warren Moon, Merril Hoge, Miss America Katie Stam, Jay Glazer, Chris Mortensen and from the E Street Band himself, Nils Lofgren. Hope you enjoyed our special coverage as again WFNI 1070 The Fan was the ONLY Indiana radio station to cover the Super Bowl from Tampa. This was my 23rd straight Super Bowl and I could see the difference in a lack of buzz. Things are bad and the league is NOT immune. But I can’t wait for 2012 when everyone comes to Indy!
SUPER BOWL MEMORIES: Flew down to Tampa on same plane with Fox 59’s Chris Hagan….ran into 13’s Dave Calabro and 6’s Dave Furst at the Super Bowl media center….Indy resident and Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle stopped by the show as did Hoosier and newly crowned Miss America Katie Stam…Enjoyed ex NFL coaches Mike Holmgren and Tony Dungy on NBC’s coverage…it was just with Matt Millen, Cris Collinsworth, Jerome Bettis and others on the stage, Dungy and Holmgren didn’t get enough time to shine…but when they did speak, they were great….ran into Dungy a few times in Tampa; he is coming to Indy this week for some book signings…Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson were brilliant in their pre game performances…and how bout Springsteen? Knocked it out of the park….Glad he selected BORN TO RUN but was hoping for BORN IN THE USA; I think the country could have used that right now…..enjoyed the candor and honesty of President Obama during his pregame interview on NBC with Matt Lauer…NFC has now won 12 straight coin tosses in Super Bowls; how does THAT happen???...Why, with that great offense and that supposed great QB would Arizona defer its selection to the second half after winning the toss???...It bothers me that these players today in pre game introductions on the network don’t recite their colleges or alma maters but instead mention their high schools or some other garbage….Has it really been 40 years since Joe Namath shocked the football world leading his 17 point underdog Jets over the Colts??? Joe Willie looks great....Tony Dungy correctly said Warner’s pass that resulted in a 100 yard INT RET for a TD was a “misread” by the QB; told you he is NOT a Hall of Famer!...Holmgren added that Warner made a major mental error; “he had 3 downs remaining to get something; it was a bad throw and bad decision.”….Is it me or does Springsteen sometimes look like the old comedian Norm Crosby….and Lil Stevie needs to drop a few ….Loved the Troy Polamalu Pepsi ad…Good move by NBC to put Alex Flanagan (NFL Network and Notre Dame games) on sidelines opposite our buddy Andrea Kremer….Ran into Mike Ditka at dinner…he told me he is a member of WOLF RUN golf club in Zionsville….so happy for Steelers owner Dan Rooney; one of the classiest guys in the league…Spent some time with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at his hotel in Tampa. He was happy Bills owner Ralph Wilson got into the Hall of Fame and he can’t wait for the Super Bowl to come to Indy….How can such a hard hitter as Polamalu speak so softly???

Danny Danny Danny....... When there is eight second's on the clock the game is tied and the other team has the ball and calls a time out. Sit down rest and start thinking that your man is going to take the last shot. When you get back on the floor your main goal is to DENY BUTLER the BALL. I repeat DENY BUTLER the BALL. If he does get the ball don't swipe at his knees that won't help any. Stay BIG, CLOSE OUT with you're arms up, if not it is game over. Please Danny......Please Danny don't let King James go for FIFTY.

eddie, yes I heard the interview with Ogden he said he could play basketball you said you were going to bring him back to play for the Pacers, cool stuff. UCLA and USC were the only schools that I applied to coming out of high school even though I had a lot of other offers. I'm a West Coast guy I know all about UCLA, on the West Coast it's either UCLA or USC that's all you think about as a kid. Yea even knew your boy Troy Aikman when he was at UCLA. That's just the way it is out West big game tonight SC at UCLA basketball. But what's that got to do with IU vs. Iowa basketball? Will this be the night that the 23 milllion dollar man get's his first conference win? Remember they play basketball at such a high level (here in Indiana), right now I'm trying to figure out how high is high? Have a great show today.

I don't know who I hate more UCLA or Notre Dame it's a toss up for TC. When you started talking to Johnathan Ogden I was like what are you thinking? Larry Bird isn't going to sign "Big John" to any contract to get defensive rebounds, block shots, body slam there low post scorers. No that's not what we do here with the Pacers. We let there big guys score, dunk, posterize people. We let Kobey back you in turn around jumper game over. Danny goes under screens with two seconds left on the clock and guess what game over. We let Okur or whatever his name is from Utah go for what forty five and yes once again game over. Defense sorry we don't play defense out here. Did you watch the game against the Nuggets you score I score cool, I won't foul you and you don't foul me okay. We play that Quinn Buckner IU alumni defense, which we all know doesn't exist. PEACE

Eddie I'm proud of you. You went, you saw, you conquered. Heard the interview with Ms. America cool stuff. Was that a game or what? It was great to see real football, not this one dimensional passing game that we see out here. Troy speaks soft but carries a big stick. SC was in the house isn't that Troys second ring? Brian Scalabrine got a ring with the Celtics last year also an SC guy not bad for a school that's just learning the game of basketball. See you Thursday night Fox and The Hound.
