Colts win, and I lose..........my patience...
Posted 11/30/2008 11:00:00 PM
Okay, so the Colts get an ugly victory Sunday afternoon over the hapless Cleveland Browns. It wasn’t pretty…but hey, a win is a win. Cleveland is a tough place to play…and the Colts found that out the hard way. The weather conditions were tough…and it affected both teams.

My only concerns are with the defensive injuries. Gary Brackett, Keyunta Dawson, and Freddy Keiaho were all banged up at some point during the game…and we’re approaching that very important time of year where Coach Dungy needs everyone as healthy as possible.

That said, following the win over the Browns…the Colts have two preseason games coming up against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions. Both teams have one win between them….which is utterly laughable…unless of course, you’re a Bengals or Lions fan.

The Colts will have to stay focused despite a puny upcoming schedule. There are a handful of teams that ...

The IHSAA Football State Finals...the unfortunate loss from the Pacers...and the inevitable loss for the Irish
Posted 11/29/2008 5:30:00 PM
I'll always have a special place in my heart for high school athletics. This weekend I've covered the sidelines for the IHSAA Football State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. The slogan for the IHSAA is "Pure Spirit, Pure Sport"...and that's a perfect way to look at what High School athletics is all about.

The kids I've watched over the course of the past few days aren't on national television. They aren't getting paid. They aren't signing autographs before an after games. They're just playing the sport they love with a certain level of passion that at times seems to be missing in professional sports.

There are tears shed in both victory and defeat. Some of these kids will go on to play college football....for others...Lucas Oil Stadium represents the end of their playing days.

And what drama......

Sheridan was looking for their fourth state championship on Friday, and fell to ...

The Pacers did what...?
Posted 11/27/2008 12:00:00 AM
Could the Pacers be quicker learners than we all thought?

Ahhhh…let’s not fall into that trap! It is still too early to tell...However, it was refreshing to see the Pacers earn a lead and maintain it as they topped the McGrady-less Houston Rockets Wednesday night.

Again, I have to point out the emotion from this team after climbing what seemed to be a daunting hurdle over the course of their last three games. Mentally, this was a big victory….the hope is that they can carry that over to Friday night and try to put together a string of these victories. Despite criticism…I still think it is too early to be worried about this team. Sure the standings don’t look good at the moment….but aren’t there 58 games left?

We should all be relieved that the Pacers have not been blown away by a team this season…they have competed…and have been ...

Pacers let another lead slip away...
Posted 11/25/2008 11:00:00 PM
You can’t just get to the finish line…you’ve got to run through it.
- Clark Kellogg

You can’t wait for your opponent to die…you have to kill ‘em.
- Charles Barkley

Those are a couple of quotes that the Pacers need to take heed to. The Pacers have played good basketball all season…but they’re now three games below .500 because of a habitual inability to close games out.

With the exception of the losses to Detroit and Chicago, the Pacers have held leads (and in some cases, significant leads) over Phoenix, Philadelphia, Orlando, Miami, and Dallas…only to see those leads evaporate down the stretch.

It is one thing to score points over the course of the first three quarters…however, it’s quite different when you’re attempting to do so in the fourth. Unfortunately the Pacers are learning the hard way. As fans, we should all be ecstatic with the fact that ...

No Granger, Murphy, or Dunleavy? No problem.
Posted 11/12/2008 10:30:00 PM
So the Pacers get yet another win…their first of the season on the road…and are now a game above .500 for the first time since December of ’07.

They played in front of 14 people at the IZOD Center in New Jersey, and pretty much outworked the Nets all night long. With the exception of the win over the Celtics, this was easily the most impressive victory of the young season for the Blue and Gold.

Why?

For one, the Pacers were missing not one…not two…but three starters. Mike Dunleavy continues to nurse his knee, Troy Murphy was battling an illness, and Danny Granger came down with a right-thigh-cramp in warm-ups. That’s three key contributors that were a no-go…forcing some of the young guys to step up.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Six players scored in double-figures for Indiana, led by TJ Ford who once again had a near ...
