Bourdais Cleared By Doctors Months After Indy 500 Crash

Sebastian Bourdais took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce he has been cleared by doctors to start racing again following his massive crash in Indy this past May.

The Frenchman was sidelined by a massive shunt during qualifying for the Indy 500 back in May, the 118G impact resulting in fractures to his pelvis and a broken hip.

He underwent surgery for the injuries and spent five days in hospital.

While originally thought to be ruled out for the season, Bourdais returned to the cockpit of an IndyCar late last month during testing at Mid-Ohio.

His recovery appears to have made another major step forward today, with the Dale Coyne Racing driver tweeting: “Some of you might wonder why I was in Indy today... Well, I had the final appointment with Doc and guess what? All clear, let's go racing!”

Bourdais has already indicated that he won’t compete on any ovals between now and the end of the season, which paves the way for a possible return for Watkins Glen and Sonoma next month.
