It was announced last June, and officially confirmed today, that Mike Tirico will host NBC's coverage of the Indy 500 this May.

2019 will mark the first time since 1965 that The Greatest Spectacle In Racing will not be broadcasted on ABC.

Tirico is well-known for his years as the play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN's Monday Night Football, but he's also covered the Olympics, tennis, broadcasted NBA games, just about everything you could do as a professional broadcaster - besides the Indy 500 - and now he will in just a few months.

“I am thrilled to join our team as we cover one of America’s iconic sporting events,” said Tirico. “Having long enjoyed the Greatest Spectacle in Racing as a viewer, it will be fabulous to see it in person for the first time.”

Tirico joined Dan Dakich's podcast "Explain Yourself, Dan" on Friday to talk more about the upcoming month of May. You can listen to that episode here
