From jconline.com:

"Former Purdue guard Dakota Mathias didn't need a draft selection to land his first NBA opportunity.

Per multiple reports, Mathias came to a partially guaranteed agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Elida, Ohio, native joins the defending Eastern Conference champions.

Per the Exhibit 10 agreement, Mathias will play for Cleveland's NBA Summer League team. He would receive a bonus up to $50,000 if he signs with the Cavaliers' G League team after being waved and stays there for 60 days. Exhibit 10 days can be converted to two-way contracts, which allow players to split time between the NBA and G League.

Summer League play begins July 6 in Las Vegas."

From usatoday.com:

"Just after selecting De’Anthony Melton with the No. 46 overall pick, the Rockets have acquired another second-rounder from the Utah Jazz, according to ESPN.com’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The team will select Purdue forward Vince Edwards with the pick."

This seemed about right for the two Purdue stars. It wouldn't have been unreasonable to see Dakota Mathias be taken in the late second round with his ability to shoot, but the size doesn't necessarily match up for what his position would be in the NBA.

Nonetheless, still great to see two four-year seniors from an Indiana school get a shot at the highest level. It's easy to think about the Duke's and Kentucky's of the world who have multiple players selected in the draft every year, but it really is a rare occurence. Purdue will be proud of this for a long time.
